How to create a basic CSV integration using database overrides
Print Document Using a Data File Integration (Video - 6:31)
Steps to create File Integration in Bartender:
- Creating a Bartender Document with Text File type database in Bartender Designer.
- Creating new Bartender Integration in Bartender Integration Builder.
- Deploy the newly created integration in Bartender Administration Console.
Creating a Bartender Document with Text File type database in Bartender Designer.
Open Bartender Designer and create your template.
Setup a Database Connection (From menu File / Database Connection Setup... or from Toolbar or from Toolbox)
Save the Document.
Creating new Bartender Integration in Bartender Integration Builder
Open Bartender Integration Builder and select Create New Integration then select File as the Integration Method.
In File Detection select the folder to scan.
Set the file pattern to your input files, usually *.txt.
Under Actions After Detection set the Action to Rename File and set the New Extension e.g. to prn.
Set other settings as you wish or you can leave them default.
In the Input Data section set Input Data Format to Unstructured.
In the Variables section you can leave everything default.
In the Print Document section on Document tab set the location and File Name accordingly.
On the Print Options tab check the settings under Print Options Overrides and add Database Overrides to (The default database).
Set the Data Source to Variable and the Variable to %EventData%.
You can test the Integration on the Test tab. Click on the Start icon at top left. If you copy a correct file into the detection folder you can see the log messages here and the results in the printer queue (if the printer isn't connected or is paused) or on the printer.
If everything is working correctly save the integration file.
Deploy the newly created integration in Bartender Administration Console
Open Bartender Administration Console and navigate to Integrations / Deployment.
Select New Deployment.
Go through the steps of New Deployment wizard.
- Select the Integration File you created previously.
- Select Configuration Name: Production.
- Select other servers if exist. Your computer is listed at default as a target server.
- Select a schedule time or select Deploy Now.
You can see your deployed Integration as waiting for events.
If you (or your external system) create a file into the detection folder you should see the printed labels on your printer. If you want to see the details, click on the Name of your integration.
If your printer isn't connected or paused you can see the print jobs in you printer's queue.
You don't have to copy any file into C:\Windows\System32\spool\PRINTERS folder, the system services do their job and create them behind the scenes (Bartender Integration Service and Print Spooler service). These services can be seen in Services, type services in the Start Menu to open Services app.
